Poison for rats and mice Storm (production of BASF) and reviews on its use

The tool for the destruction of rats and mice Storm (Storm) - try to figure out how effective it is in practice ...

Among household remedies for rats, Storm is a kind of bestseller. Indeed, the manufacturer and distributors of the drug did a good job of making it very convenient for the average fighter with rodents: the product is sold both in small economical packages that can be bought by almost any buyer and in bulk buckets that are convenient for purchase by enterprises or deratization services. Such a diverse packaging of the Storm allows you to buy and use from rats such an amount as is required in each specific case.

In the work, Storm is a fairly effective poison for rats, easy to use, but requiring strict adherence to safety measures. It is produced by the English company BASF and is sold in Russia and Ukraine through a network of regional dealers.

On a note

It should be borne in mind that under the name "Storm" the same rat poison can be sold in a variety of packaging in form and design. Sometimes even the impression is specially created that the drug belongs to any well-known trademark (for example, the Clean House trademark).

Be that as it may, in the vast majority of cases in packages packaged in small portions is rat poison produced by BASF.

The packaging of the drug can be very different.

For example, Storm poison can be sold in small buckets containing several wax briquettes.

A plastic jar containing 1 kilogram of Storm.

So, the imported preparation from Storm rats can be bought in different packaging options:

  1. One briquette per 4 grams per pack. Its price is about 15 rubles;
  2. 4 briquettes with a total weight of 16 grams. The price is about 50 rubles per package;
  3. Packages with pellets (cylindrical granules) with a total weight of 50, 100, 200 and 1000 grams;
  4. And finally, 10 kg buckets with four-gram and sixteen-gram briquettes, as well as pellets (buckets are the original packaging of the manufacturer). The cost of one bucket of poison exceeds 10,000 rubles. Such a wholesale lot is more economical than individual briquettes, but for domestic use it will be too large. It is rational to buy a Storm bucket only for use at a large commercial or industrial facility.

Interestingly, Storm pellets have special jagged edges that provoke rats to nibble them. Therefore, even if the poison is found by a completely full rodent, he will instinctively gnaw the edges of the bait and get his dose of poison.

The photo shows an example of packaging of Storm rat poison with pellets weighing 50 grams.

And this is how the pellets themselves look - small blue granules having a cylindrical shape.

Feedback

“We tried a bunch of rat money at the station, there were always a lot of them in the boiler room. Everybody works! At least no matter what poison we scatter, after that we regularly find a couple of dead comrades a day. We tried Storm, The Nutcracker, Rat Death # 1. They are all very inexpensive and easy to use, you don’t even need to read the instructions: I spread these pills for myself and then just go, collect some dead stuff ...

Pavel, Tolyatti

Another reason for the popularity of the Storm: many sellers assure buyers that this poison has a mummifying effect and prevents the decomposition of the corpses of poisoned rodents. Of course, the buyers themselves want the product not only to destroy the pests, but also to exclude the possibility of an unpleasant odor of decomposition in the room (for example, when a poisoned rat dies under the floor or behind a net house).

And often this poison is chosen among the rest precisely with the hope of its mummifying effect. About whether the Storm really possesses such qualities, as well as how to use it correctly to get rid of rats safely and without undesirable consequences - we will talk more about all these and some other interesting nuances in more detail ...

Composition of Storm, its active component and effect on rats

The composition of the drug Storm includes the following components:

  1. The food base that attracts rats and ensures that they eat poison;
  2. The active substance is flocumafen, a poison with an anticoagulating effect;
  3. A special bitterness that rats and mice do not pay attention to, but because of which neither pets nor children can eat a significant amount of this remedy;
  4. A dye that provides the characteristic color of the bait and makes it easy to distinguish it from food;
  5. Wax, providing the form of briquettes (wax is not part of the pellet).

Storm (wax briquettes)

The main component of the Storm (in fact, the active substance) is flocumafen, an effective poison for mice and rats. Penetrating from the intestines into the rodent's liver, it blocks the production of proteins responsible for blood coagulation.

With the accumulation of poison in the body, this action leads to multiple internal bleeding, from which the rat dies 3-7 days after the first use of the bait. How soon the rat dies also depends on the amount of the drug that it eats daily.

In general, for the death of one rat, you need to eat only about 1.3 grams of the Storm drug, and 0.3 grams is enough for the mouse. Theoretically, even a single four-gram briquette is enough to kill several rodents. Nevertheless, in an apartment it is always necessary to lay out a larger number of pieces of poison, since pests may not find one briquette, or one rodent will immediately eat it.

In particular, the manufacturer reports that four briquettes of funds will be enough to destroy rats on an area of 50 square meters. m. This statement is very ambiguous: if there are a lot of rats on such an area, then four briquettes may not be enough.

On a note

To date, flocumafen is considered one of the most effective rodenticidal poisons. Due to its ability to accumulate in the body, a lethal dose can be reached after several use of the drug. Due to this, the Storm is superior in reliability to many other rat poison based on blood anticoagulants.

Flocumafen, which is the active ingredient in Storm, is considered one of the most effective poisons from rats and mice.

The concentration of the active substance in the Storm is 0.005%. Due to this, the drug acts quite slowly, which, however, not only does not reduce its overall effectiveness, but even increases it. The fact is that at such a low concentration, rats do not feel either taste or smell of poison in the bait. Moreover, after the first use of the poison, they do not feel any signs of poisoning, are not worried, and boldly seek and eat the remedy again and again. For the same reason, already poisoned rats do not give any danger signals to their relatives, and those, in turn, also actively eat briquettes upon detection.

The content of flocumafen in the Storm is relatively small, while the rats do not smell it and taste and can eat briquettes again and again.

As a food bait, the product contains a grain base with meat flavorings - what attracts rats most of all. And due to the fact that the poison is blue, it cannot be confused with accidentally dropped bread or other ordinary food products.

Does the drug have a mummifying effect?

In addition to advertising statements by resourceful distributors of the drug, there is no reason to believe that the Storm mummifies the corpses of poisoned rodents and prevents their decomposition. In the official description of the means from the manufacturer, nothing is said about such an action. And most importantly - among the components that make up the poison, there are no substances that would provide a mummifying effect.

The composition of the Storm does not indicate any substances that could have a mummifying effect ...

In general, the technology practiced in practice that would ensure the mummification of the corpse of a poisoned animal due to the components of the poison itself is not known today. Purely hypothetically, such an effect can be obtained if special antibiotics are used in the drug, however, this would significantly increase the cost of the drug.

Meanwhile, the composition of the Storm does not indicate the presence of any antibiotics or other mummifying components.

All this with sufficient evidence indicates that the mummifying effect of the Storm does not have. This remedy is simply a good effective rat poison, which should be used taking into account the fact that a rat or mouse can die indoors, after which it will decompose, causing a cadaverous smell, and the carcass will have to be searched and discarded. Which, incidentally, is sometimes very problematic, and sometimes impossible at all ...

Poisoned rodent can die in a remote place and subsequently exude a strong cadaverous smell when decomposed.

“The devil pulled us to poison the mice in the office with Storm. I don’t want to say anything, the remedy is reliable, all the mice have rested, and even the pills have remained. That's just the promised mummifying action from him. And all, as luck would have it, smelled of drywall right in the workroom. It was a nightmare, we thought we would have to move to another office. Such a stench stood that really had to go to work from the phone to the buffet. It ended up with a team of installers cutting a sheet of drywall, swept out ten of these corpses of varying degrees of freshness, then put a new sheet and plastered it. And still two more weeks had to weather the room. I'm not talking about how much we paid these installers ... "

Instructions for use Storm from rats

Applying the Storm in the fight against rodents is quite simple. First you need to identify those places in the room that rats or mice visit most often.

It can be:

  • Bedside tables and boxes for food storage;
  • Sinks;
  • Trash bins;
  • The spaces behind and under the kitchen furniture;
  • Slots and openings through which animals climb into the apartment;
  • Trails constantly used by animals.

It is important to decompose the poison in those places where the probability of its eating by rodents will be maximum.

Each house can have its own unique places, to which rodents are especially partial. When searching for them, one should be guided, including by the abundance of crumbs and food debris, excrement, and wool.

Then in all such places one briquette is laid out - this will be quite enough to attract pests.

All laid out briquettes are checked daily. If any one is completely eaten, a new one is put in its place. This is repeated until the rodents stop eating the bait - almost certainly this will happen only when all the rats die.

In the instructions for use of the Storm, it is recommended to find and immediately take out all the dead animals outside the premises. And rightly so - given the absence of a mummifying effect, non-discarded rat remains will decompose and stink.

Moreover, according to the rules, it is forbidden to throw corpses of rats and the remains of poison into garbage containers. All this must be buried in the ground to a depth of about half a meter, after pouring it with bleach, outside the city and away from water bodies. It is clear that it is unlikely that any of the fighters with rats will bother themselves this way, but, nevertheless, dead animals and the remnants of the poison should at least be packed in a dense plastic bag before throwing it away.

Safety precautions when using the product

It is important to remember that the Storm is toxic to all pets and humans. Dogs are especially sensitive to it, cats and birds are a little more resistant. It is necessary to apply the poison so that neither the pets nor the children find it. Even the presence of a bitter component is not an absolute guarantee that no one will eat the bait.

The best way to use the drug safely is to place briquettes (pellets) in special bait boxes in which neither cats with dogs nor children will climb. Such boxes can be made from ordinary cardboard boxes, in the walls of which holes for rats are cut at the floor level. Attracted by the aroma of the bait, rodents can climb into the box, but the cat or dog will not penetrate. Such boxes can be bought, but their cost will be more than the cost of the poison itself.

For the safe use of poison, it is desirable to place it in special bait stations.

If you do not use boxes, then the Storm should be laid out where no one can reach it, except for rats: behind furniture, under the refrigerator, in crevices and burrows from which rodents are selected.

If the poison has to be placed in open places, at the time of its use, children and four-legged pets must be removed from the premises.

It is strictly forbidden to use the Storm in open spaces. In cottages and vegetable gardens, various animals (including birds) can eat the product. Poison can only be used indoors.

Storm briquettes and pellets should be laid out in rubber gloves, avoiding contact of the drug with the skin and its particles in the respiratory tract and digestive tract.

When working with rat poison, all safety precautions specified in the instructions should be observed.

Poisoned rats should be taken out of the room as quickly as possible so that they are not found by a cat or dog. If a pet eats a dead or dying rodent, it can poison itself.

What to do with Storm poisoning?

Signs of Storm poisoning include nausea, headache, malaise, abdominal pain, and sometimes gum bleeding or nosebleeds. Basically, this is relevant for accidental ingestion of funds. The ingress of poison on the skin or even in the eyes does not lead to such effects.

Storm poisoning can occur, first of all, if the product is swallowed.

The first thing to do in case of poisoning is to call a doctor, drink a large amount of salt water and cause vomiting. Then you should take activated charcoal and a laxative.

In case of contact with eyes, rinse with warm water. Irritated skin in places of accidental contact with the poison is washed with warm water and soap.

Substances that compensate for the effects of the Storm are vitamins K and K1. Sometimes they are not quite correctly called antidotes of anticoagulants. As a rule, accidentally poisoned dogs and cats, or people with severe poisoning, are given intravenously Vikasol or Fitomenadion - pharmaceutical preparations of vitamins K1 and K, respectively. Such a procedure should be carried out by a doctor, only in critical cases with very acute poisoning, vitamin can be introduced to the dog right on the street.

Vitamins of group K are a kind of antidotes for rat poison, which can reduce its negative effect on the body.

“Today I saw such a picture: a dead rat is lying in the middle of the sidewalk, all so bruised, as if crushed. Clearly poisoned. Horses passes by, because trained. And after us comes a girl with a husky, the dog rushes, grabs this rat and begins to chew. The girl screams, pulls out this muck from the dog’s mouth, the dog tries to escape. In the end, the rat was sent to the container, but the same girl was lucky that she had time. And so in Moscow every day more than 10 dogs die from rat poisons, and anyone can buy poison and scatter it near the house, it costs a penny and is sold on every corner. So be careful! ”

Analogs that can replace the Storm in the fight against rats

Storm is well presented on sale, you can buy it in most cities of Russia and Ukraine, and you can also order the right amount in online stores. In cases where the Storm is not on sale, you can use, for example, the remedy for rats Goliath or Stratij - analogues (although it is usually much more difficult to buy them than Storm itself). In general, the Storm is cheaper than its counterparts, even those made in Russia.

Remedy for rats and mice Goliath

If necessary, instead of Storm, poison can be used to exterminate rats based on other anticoagulants. They are about as effective, while very affordable and applied in a similar way. Among such means are Rat Death, Ratindan, Mortorat, Varat, The Nutcracker and others.

Rat Death # 1

Mortorat also enjoys well-deserved popularity in the fight against rats and mice.

“A good remedy is this Storm. A small package helped us, in my opinion, four pieces were there. Two of these pieces were placed behind the refrigerator, one under the sink, near the bin, one left in reserve. Two days later, the poison near the bucket disappeared. Put there still. And that's all, nobody touched the remedy anymore, and we never saw the mouse. Apparently, poisoned.Now she was looking for the same Storm for her parents at the dacha, but couldn’t find where to buy it, it ended in the store ...

    Friends, everything is very correctly written. But the mummifying effect is 100%. It is laid in the nature of the anticoagulant, i.e. since the rat dies from heavy bleeding, it actually dries. And of course, he cannot even stink of a corpse, even a mummified one.
